I would like to propose a metaphysics that might be useful for conducting our lives. As I have hinted at in my outline for Why Do Philosophy If There is No Objective Truth (If Truth Is Relative), I believe that the Universe is made up of Perspectives. These Perspectives eternally recur (Nietzsche was right in a deeper way than many realize; Zarathustra really had come too soon). Perspectives pair well with the concept of different sizes of infinity. Each entity in our universe (including any conception of a universe), is made up of infinite perspectives. All perspectives also contain infinite perspectives). This is what I mean when I say some perspectives are “larger” than others.
A tangible example:
Sometimes we identify as ourselves. For example, I am Michael Neumann. Sometimes, I identify with my body, sometimes my mind, sometimes an idea, sometimes my perceptual field. Likewise, sometimes I am a father, sometimes I am a brother, and sometimes I am a friend. These are typically called roles. Roles are sort of like perceptual modes that we can take as our identity as needed. A bigger perceptual role that is a common experience is identifying with a crowd. When we are in a crowd, sometimes (but not always), we are literally the crowd. To literally be the crowd is to forget oneself and become the many. When we truly identify as a crowd of people, we literally are the collection of those people.
